Description

The Shrine was built as a place to grieve and remember 19,000 Victorians killed in the First World War. It was first proposed by General Sir John Monash in 1918 with construction commencing in 1927, some nine years later. It is located to the west of the Royal Botanic Gardens of Victoria on the southern side of the Yarra River.
